Best dressed at Desert Ridge Open
PHOENIX, AZ – The second PPA tournament of the year is in the books, so it’s time for a fashion recap.
After wearing white at The Masters, players are officially free to rock any color or pattern of their choosing moving forward, so 2024 is looking promising in the fashion department.
'The Flying Frenchman' nailed this simple black and white look. I hate to say it, but men on tour usually have a problem with color coordinating. Devilliers, however, keeps it fresh in this outfit. Between the pinstripe shirt, compression sleeves, and the headband, everything meshes together. Even his paddle matches. That’s something to celebrate!
Lucy Kovalova and Callie Smith
There’s nothing I love more than matching doubles partners, and Lucy Kovalova and Callie Smith always deliver in that department. They rocked these bright red dresses in Phoenix that were just adorable. Kovalova went for a sportier dress, while Smith went with a more feminine silhouette. These outfits couldn't be better!
Chuck Taylor and Chao Yi Wang were in perfect unison fashion-wise with black hats, mint green shirts, and fuchsia shorts. My one gripe is the different colored socks. When everything else is so perfectly coordinated, you cannot forget about the socks! I’m a sucker for fuchsia, though, so this was fun.
Walker dazzled with this adorable mint green pleated skirt. I’m obsessed. Mint green is an unusual choice, since players often opt for neons or bright colors. This mint green, however, brings a softness to the court that I absolutely love. Angie’s definitely going to be a player to watch for tournament fashion down the road.
Kovalova earned a second nod, this time for her outfit in mixed doubles. The adorable black skirt with a slit cannot go unnoticed, especially when it's paired with a simple white long sleeve and white visor to match partner Matt Wright. It’s simply a match made in heaven.
Hurricane Tyra Black is a player who knows how to accessorize, and I love her for it. Rocking an all-white ensemble, there’s a lot more to this look than meets the eye. It’s the texture of the dress that I’m impressed with, not to mention the beaded pearl necklace and dangle earrings. It’s a fit made for the pickleball runway.
Yellow is my favorite color, so when World No. 1 Anna Leigh Waters arrived on the court in rocking this sunshine FILA fit, I applauded. She also wore a coral version, but I think yellow worked better for this Triple Crown machine.
Honorable Mentions
Tyson McGuffin’s little girl cheered on her dad courtside with this adorable pink and purple outfit that’s guaranteed to make you smile.
Thomas Wilson’s baby girl, Holyn, wore the coziest looking hat and onesie combo I’ve ever seen. Wish that came in my size.
