# How to Enter Scores for a Team Event in PT (Captains)

Team captains in Pickleball Tournaments (PT) team events [enter scores](https://pickleball.com/docs/en/72000649815-how-to-enter-scores-for-team-league-game-days) directly from the tournament matchup page after lineups have been set. This guide walks through the full match management workflow — finding your scheduled matches, entering scores on the scorecard, refreshing to confirm entries, completing the matchup, and navigating to the next round.

> **Note:** This video covers the full match management workflow for team captains. Score entry starts at 2:00. For lineup setup instructions, see How to Set Lineups for a Team Event in PT (Captains).

## Before You Begin

Before score entry is available, lineups must already be set for the matchup. If lineups are not in place, the scorecard will not be ready for score entry.

- You are logged in to your Pickleball.com account
- You are the designated team captain for this event
- Lineups have been set for the matchup you want to score

If lineups haven’t been set yet, complete that step first before returning here to enter scores. See [How to Set Lineups for a Team Event in PT (Captains)](https://pickleball.com/docs/en/article/captains-how-to-set-your-lineup).

## Enter Scores for Your Team Matchup

Coming from pickleballtournaments.com:

1. Log in and navigate to the tournament page on Pickleball Tournaments (PT) at [pickleballtournaments.com](https://www.pickleballtournaments.com/).
2. Click the **My Matches** tab to view your upcoming match schedule.
3. Locate the matchup you want to score and click on it to open it.
4. Click **Go to Matchup** to open the scorecard.
5. Select the individual match on the scorecard and input the final score.

**Coming from just having entered your lineups:** Find the matchup banner, and below that will be "Back to Scorecard" button. Click on that, then select the individual matches to input the score.

**For all cases when entering a score:**

1. Click **Save** to record the score — repeat this for each individual match on the scorecard.
2. Refresh the screen to confirm all score entries are updated and visible.
3. Once all scores are entered and verified, click **Complete Matches** to finalize the round.
4. Return to the **My Matches** tab to repeat this process for subsequent rounds.

> **Warning:** Unsaved entries will not be recorded. Always click Save after entering each score, and refresh the screen to confirm the entry is visible before moving to the next match. If the score does not automatically display properly, refresh your screen by pulling down from the top of the page on your phone.

## Recording Special Match Outcomes

If a match ends in something other than a standard score, use the dropdown menu above the score-entry area for that match to record the correct outcome.

- **Retirement** — a player stops mid-match
- **Forfeit** — a team is unable to play
- **Withdrawal** — a player or team withdraws before the match

Select the correct outcome type from the dropdown, then click **Save**.

## If You Entered a Score in the Wrong Match

If you placed a score in the wrong match card, **do not cancel the match**. Instead:

1. Return to the incorrect match entry.
2. Clear the scores by setting them back to zero.
3. Click **Save**.
4. Enter the score in the correct match card and save again.

This is the correct way to fix a misplaced score without disrupting the matchup setup.

> **Warning:** Cancelling a match removes it from the matchup setup and may require tournament director intervention to restore. Always zero out and save instead of cancelling when correcting a data-entry mistake.

Repeat the same steps as before, going to round two, using the circular arrows to flip the scorecard, and clicking on go to matchup. This is how you find and easily navigate to your next matchup, in this case, round 2.

## Common Mistakes to Avoid

- **Entering scores before lineups are set** — the scorecard won’t be ready until lineups are in place.
- **Opening the wrong match card** — double-check which individual match you’re selecting before entering results.
- **Forgetting to save** — click Save after each score entry. Unsaved entries will not be recorded.
- **Cancelling a match to fix an error** — if a score is in the wrong place, zero it out and save instead of cancelling.
- **Skipping the screen refresh** — after saving, refresh to confirm entries are visible before moving to the next match.
- **Leaving the matchup unfinished** — after all scores are entered, click Complete Matches to finalize the round.
