Staksrud, Patriquin battle past Truong, Martinez Vich in two hard-fought games
Federico Staksrud/Hayden Patriquin are through to the men’s doubles quarterfinals after a 12-10, 12-10 victory over No. 13 seeds Jonathan Truong/Jaume Martinez Vich in the final match of the day on Nature’s Sunshine Championship Court.
The No. 3 seeds were pushed by the first-time partnership on the other side of the net, but they were able to prevail in straight games as Patriquin continued to thrive on the left side with Staksrud on the right.

That particular formation is a recent development for this partnership, as Staksrud had almost exclusively played the left with Patriquin until the two decided to switch things up a few weeks ago in Las Vegas.
Patriquin gave some insight into his left-side game style after the contest.
“On the left, I definitely like to speed up the game and kind of control it with the aggressive dinks and apply tons of pressure, and I think we do well at looking for ernes,” he told Pickleballtv’s Kamryn Blackwood and Matt Manasse. “I like hitting those inside-out forehand ernes on the left, and that sets Fed up for ernes on his side.”
Staksrud/Patriquin will face No. 5 seeds Eric Oncins/Matt Wright in Friday’s quarterfinal round in what will be a rematch of the bronze medal match from a few weeks ago in Las Vegas.
Elsewhere, JW Johnson/CJ Klinger survived an upset bid from No. 19 seeds Roscoe Bellamy/Wyatt Stone, coming away with an 8-11, 11-4, 11-9 victory.
The No. 4 seeds trailed 7-9 in the deciding game, but they hunkered down and remained solid at the kitchen line to complete the comeback and advance to the final eight.
They will take on No. 7 seeds Noe Khlif/Dylan Frazier in the quarters.
