Staksrud, Patriquin dominate Johnson, Tardio for third title together

Federico Staksrud/Hayden Patriquin delivered perhaps the most dominant performance of the day in the men’s doubles final, taking down JW Johnson/Gabe Tardio 11-6, 11-1, 11-7 for the men’s doubles crown.

The tandem controlled the contest from virtually first serve to last, with Patriquin’s big presence on the right side complementing Staksrud’s steady left-side play.

Staksrud/Patriquin were undefeated coming into this week, having won both tournaments they had played in Sacramento and Virginia Beach.

Even though they fell to Tyson McGuffin/Andrei Daescu in pool play for their first loss, they kept alive their streak of winning every tournament they’ve played together.

“There’s a lot of effort put in behind the scenes, a lot of drilling and working hard to be able to have these types of results,” Staksrud said of the duo’s success.

For Johnson/Tardio, this week was their first time partnering up at a PPA event. Even though they didn’t come away with the title, there are a lot of positives to build on as the pairing looks forward to next season.

“We’ve been talking about playing together for more than three years, so I’m happy to finally partner with J-dub,” Tardio said. “I think we’re gonna play a couple tournaments in 2025, and hopefully we’ll do better than silver.”
