Alshon downs Johnson in singles quarterfinals
CARY, NC – It’s quarterfinal Friday at the Fanatics Sportsbook North Carolina Cup, and the conditions are nothing but optimal for some excellent play.
Christian Alshon took the first game 11-5 against Yates Johnson in men's singles action, but Johnson got hot in the second. He was leading the frame, and for a moment, it looked like we’d be moving into game three.
“Yates played really well,” said Alshon. “Singles is a lot of serve and return because of the bounce. You gotta get a deep serve, and then if they hit a deep serve, you want to hit a deep return. He was hitting some really good serves and got a lead.”
With Johnson battling back, Alshon modified his strategy to ultimately post an 11-9 score and secure the victory.
“Once he started to get a lead, I knew I had to change something up and just go forward. I was going for my serve a little bit and it was paying dividends, so I kept up that strategy,” explained Alshon.
When asked how he’s feeling after this win, Alshon replied...
“I’m feeling like a semi-finalist.”
