Brascia, Arnold advance to round of 16 in mixed doubles
ROCKWALL, TX – No. 14 seeded Maggie Brascia and Julian Arnold faced off against Brascia’s sister, Mary Brascia and Jaume Martinez Vich in the round of 32 in the Lone Star State.
It was an exciting three game battle with a final score of 5-11, 11-8, 11-9.
“We got off to a flat start,” shared Arnold.
“So we took a time out and just tried to get the blood pumping, threw a couple of ‘Andiamos!’ in there so that always helps,” continued Arnold.
Mary and Maggie Brascia regularly partner up in women’s doubles. But they rarely face off in mixed doubles.
“It’s really tough having to play against my sister,” said Maggie Brascia.
“When we saw that we had to play each other we were a little bummed out but I knew it was going to be close and we just have to forget that we’re sisters and both try our hardest to win,” continued Brascia.
“I view both the Brascias as family so it’s tough to attack Mary and be my usual annoying self,” added Arnold with a laugh.
Up next, Brascia and Arnold will face off against the 4 seeded Jorja and JW Johnson in the round of 16.
