Dizon, Wright advance to semis in Arizona
MESA, AZ – Meghan Dizon and Etta Wright clinched a spot in the mixed doubles semifinals at PPA Mesa on Friday with a three-game victory over Mary and Maggie Brascia.
Dizon and Wright were flawless in the opening stanza, pickling the Brascias 11-0.
Mary and Maggie fought back in the second, winning 11-9, before Dizon and Wright secured a 12-10 triumph in the final frame to seal the deal.
“For us, it’s about remembering to stay patient,” said Wright. “We also tried to put more balls at the back of the court and that worked great for us.”
Dizon and Wright showcased patience and resiliency when the momentum appeared to swing in the opposite direction, and they wouldn't be rattled.
They also saved an astounding seven match points before coming out on top.
“It honestly came down to us being super present and positive, even though we were down. Just remembering to be aggressive even when the nerves are there,” explained Dizon.
The pair will now face Anna Bright and Vivienne David in the semis.
“We’ll probably watch some of their matches,” said Dizon. “Then we’ll come up with a strategy and execute from there.”
