Junior PPA's Cosma joins Yeh to play on Proton Championship Court in Round of 64
This is yet another reason why people need to be paying attention to Junior PPA. First female triple crown winner, Ella Cosma, partnered up with Ella Yeh as the No. 40 seeds and they had the opportunity to play on Center Court at the Lapiplasty Pickleball World Championships.
Cosma is 15 years old and ranked No. 1 in the 16 and under division on the Junior PPA Tour. She has been playing for two years and is also sponsored by Proton.
Her partner, Ella Yeh, is 14 years old and based out of Dallas, TX and has been playing for 6 years. She is sponsored by Volair.
The two Ellas partnered up together for Worlds, and were seeded to go up against Genie Bouchard and Kaitlyn Christian.
“I’m so excited but I am really nervous,” said Cosma before walking out on Proton Championship Court. Not only was she playing on the largest court of the tournament, her match was also being broadcast on Pickleballtv.
Christian and Bouchard won 11-5, 11-6, but Yeh and Cosma enjoyed playing on the main stage for their first match.
“I haven’t had an experience like this before and it was really fun either way,” Cosma said.
Not only did Cosma play on center court, this is Cosma’s first time playing in the pro main draw. With her first pro event being broadcast for her friends and family back home to watch on Pickleballtv, it certainly means a lot to the rising pickleball star.
Additionally, Cosma provided insight on the transition from Junior PPA to pro pickleball.
“I usually play against adults all the time at home, so I am used to it. But definitely Having my first pro match on center court is kind of crazy for me but so cool,” concluded Cosma.
