No. 45 Grigoriu upsets No. 16 Garcia in three-game battle
PEACHTREE CORNERS, GA – There’s nothing like a good upset.
And in the round of 32, No. 45 seed Madalina Grigoriu defeated No. 16 Taylor Garcia in a battle to behold.
Grigoriu took the first game 11-5. Then, Garcia rallied with an 11-5 triumph in the second game to force a deciding stanza.
Grigoriu ultimately came out on top 11-7 to seal the win.
“Basically, I just stayed aggressive because I wasn’t aggressive in the second game and that’s why I lost. It was about staying aggressive and staying on top of my ball and staying solid. I played big targets and went on offense. I stayed solid and that worked,” shared Grigoriu.
She will face No. 4 seed Lea Jansen on Thursday.
What's the plan of attack, Madalina?
“I’m going to watch her play on YouTube,” said Grigoriu.
