'Plant-based foodie' Dizon chose vegan diet for 'moral reasons'

DALLAS, TX – Meghan Dizon might best be known for her outstanding doubles game, but she’s also a self-proclaimed "plant-based foodie" and attributes much of her athletic success to her vegan diet.

"It’s been about five-and-a-half years, and I’ll never eat meat again. It’s a moral situation for me," explained Dizon. "I can be healthy, have a good diet, and I can thrive without any animal products in my diet."

She ultimately started as a vegan to reduce animal cruelty and help the environment.

"People ask me if I feel a lot different since I’ve been a vegan. I had always eaten healthy before. I didn’t become a vegan for health reasons, I did it for more moral reasons," confirmed Dizon. "I’d love to work with some vegan brands to help get that out there."


Tennis legend Venus Williams is one of the most popular vegan athletes. Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton, pro surfer Tia Blanco, and world-record holding strongman and bodybuilder Patrik Baboumian, are other athletes who’ve publicly shared their vegan lifestyle, too.

Dizon appears to be the only confirmed vegan among the touring pickleball pros, though, and she hopes to bring more awareness about veganism into America's fastest-growing sport. 

"Pro athlete or not, people should be getting protein from lots of different foods. Just because I’m vegan doesn’t mean I don’t get enough protein. I do. Thankfully, it’s not difficult," insisted Dizon. "There are lots of options. Being vegan just means I get protein from different sources."

And that suits her just fine.
