Rachel Rohrabacher announces engagement to Bobby Edwards
Excuse me while I scream and kick my feet.
On Dec. 20, Rachel Rohrabacher announced her engagement to Bobby Edwards.
The couple has been together for a few years, and Edwards popped the question at Arcadia National Park in Maine.
Rohrabacher met Edwards while she was attending the University of South Carolina playing tennis and he was on a semi-pro soccer team in town.
Edwards then moved to Cincinnati to play for FC Cincinnati (MLS), but they stayed in touch.
“We met through mutual friends and we started talking. But during COVID we started officially dating, which is crazy because he was in Cincinnati and I was in Tampa for my Master’s program at the University of South Florida,” explained Rohrabacher.
Even though they began a long-distance relationship during a global pandemic, the pair made it work.
“I told him to get an Xbox because I play, and because of COVID and the travel restrictions we weren’t going to be able to see each other. So, we actually hung out for five hours a day because we had nothing to do, so we’d play video games together,” said Rohrabacher.
They mostly played Fortnite and Rocket League.
“Playing Xbox together was how we hung out. That kind of bonded us and kept us in touch, which could have been so isolating. But, we had fun with it,” she added.
Rohrabacher and Edwards have both seen their life plans altered and experienced career changes.
She chose to pursue a full-time pro pickleball career, while Edwards became the Academy Goalkeeper Coach for FC Cincinnati.
Nevertheless, their relationship has endured.
“It’s so beneficial to have him as a partner, not only for the person he is, but his understanding of this lifestyle. This life is so abnormal,” explained Rohrabacher.
Life on tour can be especially tricky with all of the practice time, tournaments, and travel involved.
“Other than my parents, Bobby is my biggest supporter, which means so much to me,” said Rohrabacher.
And now, she has a beautiful new emerald cut ring that will shine on the court during every match.
Congratulations to the happy couple!
