'Pickleball sickos' at Stack Athletics 'like to be a little loud' with gear
There are quite a few pickleball apparel brands on the market, but few are as bold as Stack Athletics.
The brand that unabashedly features sayings like “Where tennis players go to die” and “Support short courts” has made waves since launching in the summer of 2023.
“We freaking love pickleball. We’re pickleball sickos,” said Jeremy Nef, the president of Stack Athletics. “We wanted to build a brand that was homegrown in the sport. All we care about is pickleball, and we want to validate the sport as a serious sport that we love. Hopefully, our brand can help elevate the sport into something more than just a recreational game.”
Stack’s graphic T-shirts with tongue-in-cheek lines like “Noise ordinance rebels” illustrate the brand's familiarity with pickleball culture.
“We see pickleball like this: Pickleball is to tennis as snowboarding was to skiing back in the day,” mentioned Nef.
Since Stack is completely pickleball-centric, there are practical elements added to their designs that specifically benefit those who play America's fastest-growing sport.
“Our tournament shorts have pickleball pockets on the waistband that hold two to four pickleballs,” shared Nef.
Another popular print, their court check in a gorgeous lavender and white, looks like a simple checkerboard pattern.
If you look closely, though, you can see that it’s actually a pickleball court.
“The aesthetic is loud, rebellious, and a little countercultural. We like to be a little loud,” said Nef. “We ultimately want our stuff to be as good, if not better than a lot of the apparel and athleisure brands out there right now. We’re focusing only on pickleball, and we look for pickleball features that we can add to our products.”
They’ve also collaborated with MLP's Utah Black Diamonds, Bay Area Breakers and California Black Bears to create some stellar uniforms.
“We want to be involved on the rec level and the pro level,” mentioned Nef. “We love MLP. The format is a blast. It’s loud, a little rowdy, and we love being a part of it.”
Stack works with several notable pros, including Christine Maddox, Tyler Loong, Michael Loyd, Alex Walker and Angie Walker.
“Ever since Tyler Loong started wearing our stuff, he’s never looked cooler,” said Nef with a laugh. “It’s been really fun to see some of the best players in the world wear Stack.”
Since we’re all a bunch of noise ordinance rebels, I think everyone should be wearing Stack.
