3 things to watch for on Saturday at MLP Salt Lake City
The Picklr MLP Salt Lake City continues on Saturday with eight matches across Championship Court and Grandstand Court at The Picklr Kaysville.
Here is the order of play:
Now, let's get into what to watch for.
- The Texas Ranchers (15-9, 47pts) will close out their regular season against the Atlanta Bouncers (5-17, 16pts) in the first match of the day on Championship Court. If the Ranchers win in regulation, they will overtake the Los Angeles Mad Drops (18-7, 49pts) and secure the No. 6 seed going into the postseason. The top six seeds earn a first-round bye at the Toray MLP Playoffs San Diego, which will run August 15-17. This is also a big match for the Bouncers, who are still in playoff contention after a come-from-behind DreamBreaker victory over the Miami Pickleball Club on Friday.
- The New Jersey 5s (17-4, 53pts) will begin their campaign in the Beehive State with matches against the Chicago Slice (5-18, 20pts) and Miami Pickleball Club (8-15, 22pts). After a 5-1 showing last week at MLP Dallas, the 5s need just four points through their four matches this week to overtake the Brooklyn Pickleball Team (18-7, 56pts) and secure the No. 3 seed going into the postseason.
- The Orlando Squeeze (13-9, 37pts) are switching up their mixed doubles pairings for their lone match against the Chicago Slice on Saturday. They will have Federico Staksrud play with Milan Rane and Dylan Frazier play with Lacy Schneemann. Schneemann/Staksrud have played together for the entire season up to this point, boasting a 14-12 record. Now, Staksrud will compete alongside Rane, who Orlando acquired in a trade with Miami in mid-July.
Grandstand Court action begins at 10am MDT, while Championship Court matches will start at 11am MDT on Pickleballtv.
