Dress code tradition continues at Masters in January

The 2025 Zimmer Biomet Masters powered by Invited will be the "cleanest" tournament of the season - from a fashion standpoint, that is.

An all-white dress code applies to all professional divisions of play - including qualifiers - competing at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, CA from January 6-12.

Amateurs will also be encouraged to follow the dress code.

What exactly does that mean?

Competitors must be dressed head-to-toe in pickleball attire that is almost entirely white.
Off-white or cream simply won't do.

The only really noticeable pops of color generally permitted? Sponsorship logos in the following areas: breast, sleeves, shorts or skirt, and hat or visor, which should make compiling a "Best Dressed List" for pickleball.com rather interesting.

A single trim of color around the neckline and around the cuff of the sleeves is acceptable, but the back of a shirt, dress, tracksuit top or sweater must be completely white.

Shorts, skirts, and tracksuit bottoms must be completely white except for a single trim of color down the outside seam as well.

A similar rule applies to caps (including the underbill), headbands, bandanas, wristbands and socks, which must be completely white except for that same single trim of color.

There is some wiggle room, however, with undergarments that can be visible during play as they must be either completely black or white.

And while every effort should be made to wear white shoes during competition, these may be colored if necessary. Medical supports and equipment may be colored if necessary as well.

According to the PPA, white symbolizes a fresh start for the Tour and players alike.

It's a metaphor for athletes working towards achieving new goals and objectives.

“As a former tennis player, there are a few tournaments that I played where we'd wear white. It just goes back to those roots of tennis and adds a little bit more tradition,” said Connor Garnett last December. “For pickleball, having certain tournaments with certain characteristics, whether it’s wearing white at the Masters or having Pickleball Boulevard, it’s so cool to see the sport creating some of these traditions.”
