Ignatowich, Wright advance with quarterfinal victory
MESA, AZ - James Ignatowich and Matt Wright are into the men’s doubles semifinal after an 11-3, 8-11, 11-6 victory over Julian Arnold and Jack Munro.
Hands battles dominated the gameplay, with both teams opting for an aggressive style of play.
The aggression, however, wasn’t saved for just the shots on court.
There was also plenty of chatter between Wright and Arnold who seemed to try and outdo one another in making their out calls heard and understood.
Even though it looked chippy at times, Wright explained that the antics are just a part of the game.
“Any time you play Julian, you know it’s going to be a fiery match. There’s gonna be some words exchanged back and forth,” he told PickleballTV’s Michelle McMahon. “It’s all just in good fun at the end of the day.”
And there was fun aplenty on Humana Championship Court, as all four players had impressive moments that put their athleticism and reflexes on display.
Up next for the No. 3 seeds is a clash against No. 2 seeds JW Johnson and Dylan Frazier.
