Pickle City Fort Worth celebrates grand opening with packed courts and growing community
Pickle City Fort Worth recently held its official grand opening at the 16-court facility.
The 35,000-square-foot complex has been operating since January after icy conditions forced a delay in its original opening celebration. In the months since, the club has built a steady following, with approximately 350 members regularly playing across its 10 indoor and six outdoor courts.
The venue is designed as more than just a place to play pickleball. It features a full gym, wellness spaces, a sports bar and a pro shop, positioning itself as a social and fitness hub for the growing number of pickleball enthusiasts in North Texas.
Pickle City was developed by Steve McKeever, who is also leading the broader North City project, a 148-acre urban village located at U.S. Highway 287 and Interstate 35W. The surrounding area continues to expand with major entertainment and retail destinations, including Andretti Indoor Karting & Games, Living Spaces and a Carvana car vending site.
McKeever’s daughter, Hannah, serves as director of sales, with several other family members involved in operations as well.
“Basically my dad loves pickleball,” she said. “He has a way of finding a trend and figuring out how to make good investments.”
Pickleball has reached roughly 20 million players in the United States and is projected to grow at an 11.3% compound annual rate through 2028, according to a 2025 report from the Sports & Fitness Industry Association.
The vision for Pickle City, however, extends beyond those numbers.
“He wanted to create a community for pickleball players and create more of a social club where people can play and stay and drink and work out and kind of just have everything they need in the same place,” she explained.
Early members say that vision is already taking shape.
“We were playing somewhere, but it wasn’t focused on pickleball, so when I heard about this I had to check it out,” said member Don Clesson. “This place just has a great vibe and that’s what I’m after. That, and the competition is very high.”
The facility enters a competitive and rapidly expanding market. Investors across the country have begun backing pickleball-focused venues that blend sport with entertainment.
With strong early membership, full courts and a focus on community, Pickle City is positioning itself as a key player in the continued growth of pickleball in North Texas.
