How does this work?

To help you better understand the different types of rankings, we'll focus on three key systems: WPR (World Pickleball Ranking), Current Seed, and The Race Standings.

Each of these rankings serves a unique purpose in tracking performance, determining placement, and highlighting progress throughout the season.

Below, we'll outline the key components of each ranking so you can understand how they work, what they represent, and how they differ.

What counts for the WPR?

Points are based on a player's best tournament results over the past 52 weeks. It reflects long-term performance across singles, gender doubles, and mixed doubles.

  • Number of Tournaments

The top 14 tournaments within their own discipline in the past 52 weeks will count for a player's WPR.

  • How far back

The WPR calculates points from tournaments played in the past 52 weeks back.

  • Discipline breakdown

Singles (15%), Gender Doubles (50%), Mixed Doubles (35%) contribute to the ranking.

  • Who can get a World Pickleball Ranking

Play in any PPA USA, PPA Asia, or PPA Australia pro event and you could gain WPR points.

What counts for the Current Seed?

Shows a player's most recent results and is used to decide their seeding in upcoming tournaments. Focuses on short-term performance that directly impacts brackets.

  • Focus

Based on the most recent tournament results.

  • Purpose

Determines player placement and seedings in upcoming brackets.

  • Timeframe

Short-term performance, prioritizing the latest results rather than full-year history.

  • Pedigree

The player's competitive performance and historical results across multiple seasons.

  • Impact

Directly affects how players are matched in tournaments.

What counts for The Race Standings?

Tracks all points earned in the current calendar year only. Resets each January and highlights season-long performance for year-end standings and qualifications.

  • Calculation Period

Points are collected only from the current calendar year.

  • Reset

Resets every January, starting fresh for the new season.

  • Goal

Highlights consistent performance throughout the season.

  • End-of-year impact

Used for year-end standings, awards and qualifications.

Understanding these rankings helps players track progress and see where they stand in competition.
