Actor Ed Helms takes to Instagram to understand Chicago's pickleball scene
Actor Ed Helms made a stop in Chicago last week in conjunction with his book tour for SNAFU: The Definitive Guide to History’s Greatest Screwups.
That's when he noticed pickleball courts were just about everywhere in the downtown core.
With that in mind, he took to Instagram to learn more about the Windy City's obsession with America's fastest-growing sport.
Helms, who hasn't ever played pickleball before, recorded a video to get some answers from his 1.3 million followers.
"I was just out walking around, I'm right downtown, so many people out, and so much just good vibes in Chicago. I just have one question: What's up with the pickleball? Like, what the hell? There's like 50 pickleball courts in the middle of downtown, which is pretty prime real estate," he said . "I get it, people like pickleball, but really? I mean, like, really? What am I missing? Tell me what I don't understand about pickleball? I get it, people are passionate, but I've never played, so tell me what's up. What is the deal? Also, Chicago, why are you like super crazy about pickleball? And then, last question, why is it called pickleball?"
As expected, the replies came in droves.
It's nice to see another notable figure in the entertainment world taking notice of pickleball's remarkable popularity.
And once he picks up a paddle, he probably won't be able to put it down.
We'll see you on the court, Ed!
Ed Helms is best known for his portrayal of Andy Bernard on the sitcom The Office and his role as Stuart Price in The Hangover trilogy.
