Home Depot’s Christmas pickle is the best pickleball holiday decor

Am I the only one who thinks the holiday season has just really gone off the rails this year? With Netflix releasing movies like “Hot Frosty” about a snowman who gets turned into a human and falls in love, have we lost our Christmas minds? What happened to the Grinch and Charlie Brown Christmas?

Well, in the latest pickleball installment of Christmas gone crazy, Home Depot started selling a plush bright green pickle in their lineup of Christmas decor.

The pickle is decked out in holiday cheer with a Santa hat, candy cane scarf, yellow pickleball, and a festive red and white pickleball paddle. And like any true pickleball addict, he has a big smile with wonder in his eyes.

Best of all, it sings and dances.

Press a button on the pickle’s foot and it starts moving and grooving to a Christmas pickleball carol. The pickle also has eyebrows that add to the hilarity of the song and dance.

Here’s the jingle.

  • I am ze Christmas pickle, I play pickleball every day
  • Back and forth and away we go, it’s tons of fun don’t you know?
  • Be fast, be swift, be super quick
  • But you will never beat me
  • I’m on ze nice list every year, and I’ve got Santa on my team
  • It’s snowing now and getting cold, so hurry don’t you wait
  • Play pickleball with me today and watch me win another game

But all of this is even funnier because the pickle sings in a German accent. At first, I had no idea why the pickle was German. Pickleball wasn’t founded in Germany and isn’t the most popular sport in Germany. So why German?

But after some digging, I discovered a Christmas pickle tradition that people believe to have originated in Germany. Before Christmas, a family hides a pickle ornament somewhere in their Christmas tree. And the first child to find the pickle on Christmas morning gets to open the first gift.

However, according to Today, this is not a common German tradition and the origins of the Christmas pickle tradition are unknown. So, perhaps the makers at Home Depot were in the majority and believed the Christmas pickle was a German tradition.

Either way, the German accent makes the song even funnier. I swear I’ve watched the video of the pickle at least five times and I can’t stop giggling. I don’t know who I need to buy this for – maybe myself – but I’m now on a quest to find this pickle because this is the best holiday decor I’ve seen all season.

Forget Elf on the Shelf and Snoop on the Stoop, give me the Christmas pickle from Home Depot for all the crazy Christmas cheer.
