Pickleball Slam 3 featuring Agassi, Graf, Roddick, Bouchard airs Sunday on ESPN
America's fastest-growing sport will take center stage worldwide on Sunday, Feb. 16 when ESPN broadcasts live coverage of Pickleball Slam 3 from Michelob ULTRA Arena at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino starting at 4 p.m. ET / 1 p.m. PT.
Andre Agassi, Steffi Graf, Andy Roddick, Genie Bouchard, John Isner and Mardy Fish will hit the court in Las Vegas with a $1 million prize purse on the line, and three matches are scheduled to be contested.
Here is the order of play:
Match 1:
Andre Agassi vs. Andy Roddick
Match 2:
Steffi Graf / Mardy Fish vs. Genie Bouchard / John Isner
Match 3:
Andre Agassi / Steffi Graf vs. Andy Roddick / Genie Bouchard
The husband and wife tandem of Agassi and Graf are the defending champions.
Like her better half, Graf has really taken to pickleball in recent years.
“You can see progress so much quicker than in tennis,” said the 22-time Grand Slam singles champion in a Feb. 13 story on CNN.com by George Ramsay. “The fun factor just is immediately there, and the game equalizes each other out a little more, playing more doubles and mixed … you feel like everybody you know just can jump in.”
Graf genuinely appreciates the intricacies of the game.
And she knows that transitioning from tennis isn't a walk in the park.
“For me, it was really a lot of unlearning and actually it was one of the things that I really enjoyed because it really challenged me,” Graf explained to Ramsay. “I like to hit the ball in tennis, but no, not in this game. It’s much more about the feel, choosing to reset and taking speed off than driving the ball. So patience is not my strength. I’m enjoying that it really is taking me out of my comfort zone a lot of times.”
