World Series hero Miguel Rojas should give pickleball a try

Los Angeles Dodgers second baseman Miguel Rojas had a golden opportunity to try America's fastest-growing sport during teammate Mookie Betts' Smash for Good Pickleball Challenge on August 28, but he elected to pass because risking possible injury simply wasn't an option.

Given the way things played out Saturday night in Game 7 of the World Series, it's safe to say that Rojas made the right call, even if the chances of getting hurt in Betts' friendly event were slim.

Not only did Rojas hit the game-tying home run in the top of the ninth inning at Rogers Centre, but he also made a key defensive play in the bottom of the frame to send the contest to extras where the Dodgers ultimately emerged victorious.

"Obviously, we're not going to be playing today," said Rojas, as he entered the Griffin Club to support Betts and the festivities benefiting the 50/50 Foundation. "We have to make sure that we're rested for the 28 games left in the regular season that we have, and then for the playoffs."

Now that the Dodgers have accomplished their goal, Rojas and Betts can finally hit the court together to enjoy some downtime and reflect on the club's remarkable campaign.

Given Betts' prowess with a paddle, he'd be a perfect mentor for his pal.

"I'm not good. I haven't tried pickleball," admitted Rojas. "But, I feel like if I need to play, I would do a good job."

It's hard to argue with that.

For someone with no experience, though, it's interesting that Rojas already has a gameplay strategy in mind.

"I watched a couple games before, and I feel like staying low is a big part of it and trying not to give any shots that are close to the net," he explained. "I'd rather my opponent be running around so he can get tired. I think my ability to be in better shape will help me win the game."

As for Rojas' partner of choice, another Dodgers teammate and future Hall of Famer came to mind.

And he just so happens to be one of the finest hitters in baseball.

"I think if I partner with Freddie Freeman, I think we would be a really good team," concluded Rojas.

We'd love to see it someday.

Talk about a talented tandem.
