Anthropologie is redefining athleticwear fashion and breaking the mold
When Anthropologie first launched athleticwear, I’ll admit I was skeptical. So many brands with zero background in performance apparel jumped on the athleisure wave, churning out workout sets that felt like uninspired copy-and-paste versions of what established athletic brands were already doing.
But Anthropologie’s Daily Practice line does something different. Instead of playing it safe, it experiments, and in the process, reimagines what athleticwear and athleisure can look like.
Through unexpected textures, bold silhouettes, and inventive fabric choices, the line channels Anthropologie’s signature boho, eclectic, maximalist aesthetic. It takes familiar athletic staples and infuses them with personality and flair. Maybe it’s not designed for peak performance on the pickleball court, but it is creatively energizing, and that’s what makes it stand out.
This set from their Daily Practice line is a true standout, featuring a gorgeous green pattern with striped accents. The jacket and shorts combo elevates a warmup outfit with a playful yet polished edge.
Here’s another example. I have a similar knit warmup jacket in a soft mauve color hanging in my closet. I wear it to the pickleball court, take it off when I play, then wear it again when I run errands or get coffee. But this simple fitted jacket has a diamond woven texture that is incredibly subtle, which makes it so much more interesting than a simple jacket.
Now those are just warmup pieces. They’ve made several tennis dresses that feature the classic structure, but add something new.
This white mini dress feels more at home in street style than on the court. With its drop waist, high neckline, and flutter skirt, it’s an unexpected silhouette for my favorite racket sport, yet that’s exactly what makes it so fun. It seamlessly pulls street-style trends into the world of athleticwear.
The Daily Practice Court Mini Dress is the most classic tennis dress in their current lineup, but even the bright bold patterns shake up an otherwise simple design.
Then there’s this dress, which immediately brings to mind Naomi Osaka’s Australian Open walkout look, though this version feels like an evolution of that idea. The layered silhouette is right on trend in athleticwear, and the skirt’s soft watercolor effect and delicate pattern are undeniably beautiful. Still, taken as a whole, it’s not my personal favorite, even if it does feel unmistakably Anthropologie.
Even this white zip front mini dress mirrors silhouettes I’ve seen countless professionals wear on the court. What sets it apart are the mesh side panels and ruching that accentuate a woman’s curves, adding visual interest. It’s these thoughtful details that elevate these athletic pieces beyond what’s currently on the market.
I absolutely adore this sweater mini dress. While I’ve never played pickleball in a sweater material, pro player Lara Giltinan has worn several Alo sweater sets on the singles court. Regardless, the beachy, playful color blocking feels refreshingly unexpected and unlike anything I’ve seen courtside.
At a time when many brands simply rework classic designs with a logo attached, Anthropologie stands out for its willingness to take risks. These pieces may not be the most practical, but they’re undeniably bold and guaranteed to turn heads on the court.
