When I first stumbled upon the designer pickleball dress by Norma Kamali in November 2023, I certainly didn’t think she would expand her line to include a whole collection of going out party dresses in January 2024.

Fast forward to the present and singer, songwriter and actress Lady Gaga was spotted wearing a Norma Kamali pickleball dress. 

This dress just keeps on giving. 

Lady Gaga is not one to shy away from experimental or shocking fashion choices on and off stage.

Earlier this week, she posted an image of herself in one of Kamali’s creations that’s far better suited for her stage attire and unique street style than the pickleball court. 

Featuring a high neck and cap sleeves, the top half of this dress isn’t too bad. It’s flattering and great for players who want protection from the sun. 

But the body suit bottom is where the logistics of wearing this on the court goes completely out the window. 

Look, I love a body suit as much as the next girl. They’re trendy, flattering, and hug your figure in all the best ways. Body suits are also incredibly popular for performance and stage wear.

But the sheer black overlay makes me nervous. I’d be so worried that something was going to fall out that I would barely be able to play - not to mention if I dive for a ball like Allyce Jones. Nothing is secure with that kind of hemline. 

Maybe if the skirt wasn’t sheer and was instead the same fabric as the top, it could work for court play. But, I’d still be worried about accidentally flashing my doubles partner. And friends, that’s not the kind of pickleball fashion I’m in the market for. 

However, the little black dress is stunning on Lady Gaga and the sheer overlay circle skirt is reminiscent of FILA’s 2023 collection with mesh illusion skort that Anna Leigh Waters made look so cool. Those skirts had spandex boy shorts underneath, of course. A bit more reserved for actual pickleball play. And if the World No. 1 can play singles in that, it’s definitely good enough for the rest of us. 

Despite the fact that Gaga is not wearing this for pickleball, I love how she paired it with opera gloves, big sunglasses, and chunky rider boots giving the overall effect of a punk ballerina vibe that is just so chill.

It does remind me of how Jorja Johnson has styled some of her pro pickleball looks in the past. Specifically, this all-black ensemble from the Carvana Mesa Cup that features cutouts that gives the overall look an edgier and more grunge aesthetic. 

But does Gaga wearing a designer pickleball dress mean she’s a pickleball player? It’s certainly a possibility. But if you want to dress like her, you can shop the look here.

Nevertheless, I recommend you wear it for a night out, not the pickleball court.
