A guide to building a pickleball capsule wardrobe

DALLAS, TX – If there’s one thing that’s trending right now, it’s capsule wardrobes.

Every fashion girl is sharing her tips and tricks on building one, so I have to put my own pickleball-related spin on it.

A capsule wardrobe is a collection of clothing and accessories that mix and match easily to create different combinations of outfits. The minimalists love this trend.

All the different pieces within it coordinate seamlessly, and there's no better area of my closet to experiment with than my pickleball workout clothes.

There are a few key principles to consider when building a capsule wardrobe:

  • Keep it simple
  • Keep it coordinated
  • Keep it comfortable

Simple: Choose the clothes in your closet that are timeless and can easily be dressed up or dressed down and easily mixed and matched with other pieces.

Coordinated: Pick a color scheme and stick with it. If you’re a pink girl, choose a pallet that has basic colors and throw in fun pops of pink that satisfy your personal taste.

Comfortable: Wear clothes that make you comfortable, especially when it comes to being active and playing pickleball. Don’t wear shorts that are so tight that you can’t comfortably and easily move around. Avoid the sports bra that doesn’t have enough support. You can still dress cute, while still feeling comfortable.

Here are the items I’m adding to my pickleball capsule wardrobe:

Tennis shoes

Start off with the shoes because they're the most important part of the court look. If your feet aren't comfortable and supported, you won't play well. And when it comes to aesthetics, shoes can make or break your outfit.

Pick your favorite court shoes, but if you’re hunting for a new pair, I recommend opting for a classic color scheme like black, white, or cream. You can choose your wildly colored shoes for a pop of color, but you might be wearing more solids and basics for the rest of your outfit.

I’m tempted to add in my sky blue Skechers for a pop of color.

Tops

Depending on the weather, it’s great to have variety. Perhaps throw in a tank top, a T-shirt, and a breathable long sleeve shirt that provides sun protection. Variety is key, but adapt to where you are playing.

Black leggings

These are a staple for a reason. They’re versatile year-round and go with literally anything and everything. Just throw them in. I promise you’ll wear them.

Bottoms

Whether you prefer form-fitting biker shorts or more breathable running shorts, a good pair of shorts is a must, especially if you’re getting into a competitive game. You’re going to get sweaty. If you’re more of a skirt girl, though, throw in your favorite twirly or pleated tennis skirt to show off your style.

Athletic Dress

This would be the perfect thing to incorporate your pop of color, but you can never go wrong with black because it’s slimming, looks great on everyone, and can easily be paired with any other color.

Accessories

Hats, visors, sunglasses, or hair ties are the perfect way to incorporate that pop of color you love, too. And don’t forget your socks.

A pickleball capsule wardrobe can help minimize your closet and alleviate some stress when deciding what to wear. It’s perfect for pros who are constantly on the road and great for people living in apartments or dorms. It’s such a fun way to challenge your inner pickleball fashionista.
