Honolulu Pickleball Company has exploded in popularity over the last few years, and its paddle lineup has grown with it. Unfortunately, the model names read like a string of codes, and many of their paddles cost exactly the same, so it can be a daunting task to sift through the letters and numbers to find the right choice for you. All five paddles in this guide sell for $195, which means the decision comes down to shape, feel and surface rather than budget.

In this guide we break down Honolulu's naming conventions and walk through each of their top selling models to help you pick the right paddle for your game.

How Honolulu Names Its Paddles

Every Honolulu model starts with a J and a number, and the number tells you the shape. J2 is Honolulu's hybrid shape, which balances reach and hand speed. J3 is the wider standard shape, about 16 by 8 inches, and J6 is the elongated shape, about 16.5 by 7.5 inches.

The letters that follow tell you which family the paddle belongs to. The Sword & Shield J2NF and J2FC+ are Honolulu's all-court paddles. Both use a multi-density all-foam core and a carbon fiber face, and both are tuned for a blend of pop and touch. The CR paddles (J2CR, J3CR and J6CR) are Honolulu's power series, built on the brand's Core Reactor foam core. The versions in this guide add the Crystal Blue Endurance Surface, a grit face designed to hold its texture longer than standard carbon.

One practical difference to keep in mind is tournament approval. The Crystal Blue surface is approved for UPA-A play but not USA Pickleball sanctioned events, so if you play USAP tournaments, look at the standard carbon versions of the CR paddles instead.

Sword & Shield J2NF

Honolulu J2NF Pickleball Paddle

The J2NF is a 16mm hybrid with a multi-density all-foam core, pairing an EPP center with EVA foam around the perimeter. It comes with a 5.5-inch handle, which is long enough for two-handed backhands.

On court, the J2NF is the firmer and livelier of Honolulu's two all-court paddles. The ball comes off the face quickly, drives stay flat and penetrating, and fast hand exchanges at the kitchen feel crisp and explosive. The sweet spot is large and stable, so blocks and counters hold their line even when you don't catch the ball cleanly. It still has enough control for dinks and drops, but the response is direct rather than cushioned.

Players who want a very soft, muted feel on resets may find it a little too lively, and it doesn't offer the full reach of an elongated paddle.

Best for: Intermediate to advanced all-court players who want quick pop and fast hands in a paddle that still feels controlled.

Sword & Shield J2FC+

Honolulu J2FC+ Pickleball Paddle

The J2FC+ shares the J2NF's hybrid shape, 16mm thickness and multi-density foam core, but Honolulu tunes it for more dwell time and a softer response. It also has a carbon fiber face and comes in 5.5-inch and 6-inch handle options.

The difference shows up as soon as you start dinking. The J2FC+ feels plush and smooth, and the ball stays on the face a moment longer, which makes drops, resets and soft blocks easier to control. That extra time on the ball also helps you shape spin on rolls and slices. It still has a good amount of pop when you swing through a drive, but it builds that pace more gradually than the J2NF. The softer feel is also easier on the arm over a long session.

The tradeoff is that it doesn't give you the same instant pop on full drives and speed-ups, and players who like sharp, direct feedback may find it a little muted.

Best for: Touch-first players, players with sensitive elbows or shoulders, and anyone who wins more points at the kitchen than from the baseline.

J2CR Crystal Blue

Honolulu Crystal Blue Grit J2CR

The J2CR is the hybrid model in Honolulu's CR power series. It's a 16mm paddle built on the Core Reactor foam core with the Crystal Blue Endurance Surface, and Honolulu describes it as the balanced option in the line, with spin and pop alongside control.

On court, the J2CR feels light and quick in hand, which makes it easy to get the paddle up in fast exchanges at the kitchen. It has noticeably more pace than the Sword & Shield paddles, and the hybrid shape keeps the sweet spot forgiving when contact drifts off center, so blocks and counters stay steady. The grit grabs the ball, and topspin drives and rolls dip hard. The face feels firm for the first few sessions and softens up for dinks and resets once it's broken in.

If you want power and spin but aren't sure whether you want the wider J3CR or the longer J6CR, this is the safest starting point in the CR series.

Best for: All-court players who want more power and heavy spin while keeping the maneuverability of a hybrid shape.

J3CR Crystal Blue

Honolulu Crystal Blue Grit J3CR

The J3CR puts the same Core Reactor core and Crystal Blue surface into Honolulu's standard shape, a wider 16 by 8 inch face. It's 16mm thick and is the widest paddle in the CR series.

The wider face is the reason to choose it. The J3CR is the most forgiving of the three CR paddles, and it stays stable on balls you catch near the edge, which makes a big difference in fast doubles exchanges where you're reacting rather than setting up. It moves quickly in hand battles, blocks and counters feel solid, and the grit still produces heavy spin on rolls and drives. It has plenty of pop, though less leverage on serves and drives than the longer shapes.

Players who rely on reach, play a lot of singles, or want the most power from a full swing will be better served by the J2CR or J6CR.

Best for: Doubles players who want CR power and Crystal Blue spin in the most forgiving shape Honolulu makes.

J6CR Crystal Blue

Honolulu Crystal Blue Grit J6CR Pickleball Paddle

The J6CR is the elongated paddle in the CR series, measuring 16.48 by 7.52 inches with a 6-inch handle. Honolulu shifts more mass toward the head on this shape, and it's the most powerful paddle in the lineup.

You feel the extra leverage right away on serves, returns and drives, which come off the paddle with real pace and depth. The response is crisp and lively without feeling harsh. For an elongated paddle, it moves well in hand battles, and it holds up better than most elongated shapes on balls caught off center. The grit pairs well with the longer swing path, so heavy topspin drives are a strength.

It's still an elongated paddle, so it isn't as quick or as forgiving at the kitchen as the J2CR or J3CR. It also sells out often, so check availability before you set your heart on one.

Best for: Power players, singles players and anyone who wants maximum reach and leverage from Honolulu's lineup.

Which Honolulu Paddle Should You Buy?

Start with the family. If you value touch and control and want a paddle that's easy to play with every day, choose one of the Sword & Shield paddles. Pick the J2NF if you like a firm, lively response, or the J2FC+ if you prefer a softer, more forgiving feel. If you want more power and heavier spin, move to the CR series and choose by shape. The J3CR is the most forgiving, the J2CR is the most balanced, and the J6CR gives you the most reach and power.
