Serve with style: Luxury communities across the globe are building pickleball courts

Golf and tennis may have dominated the affluent communities and residences across the world, but pickleball is now giving those spaces a run for their money. Luxury hotels and residences are now investing in pickleball by building courts in some of the most beautiful locations on the planet for their residents to enjoy.

At Punta Mita, a resort and residential community located in Nayarit, Mexico, they were quick to add pickleball courts to their amenities due to sport's rise in popularity.

“We have always prioritized fostering connections at Punta Mita and pickleball was a natural addition. The sport is approachable regardless of age or skill level, yet still has a competitive edge that many of our members are looking for,” said Carl Emberson, Director of Operations at Punta Mita.

“We are constantly evolving Punta Mita’s amenities to reflect the interests and passions of our residents and guests. The addition of eight dedicated pickleball courts is a direct result of the sport’s rapid rise in popularity and complements our existing racquet sports programming,” he continued.

No shock here, the courts have been a hit.

“We started curating a robust calendar of pickleball programming as a result, including lessons for both beginners and enthusiasts, inter-club matches, specialized clinics, and social mixers,” said Emberson.

At the Costa Palmas resort in Baja Sur, Mexico, the pickleball courts are consistently booked and busy as well.

“The courts are in high demand, with an on-site pickleball instructor available for lessons. Many of our members arrive with extended family or friends, so there’s always a full match underway. Beyond play, the sport has become a way for members to connect, mingle, and share moments together — fostering a true sense of community and belonging,” said Michael Radovan, Managing Director of Sales as Costa Palmas.

“Our pickleball courts are located within Jimmy’s Sports Park — tucked away and sheltered from the elements, while still offering a vibrant, open-air setting. It’s an energetic counterpart to the serene oceanfront, providing members with the perfect space to trade tranquil views for active fun, camaraderie, and connection,” he added.

Located in another tropical paradise, the Four Seasons Resort Hualalai and their residental community, the Hualalai Resort, began with three pickleball courts but quickly added another pickleball court because they were so popular.

“There was a strong demand for pickleball courts from members, guests, and ownership. Fastest-growing sport in America really meant we had to be part of the trend," noted Mark Willman, Director of Tennis at the Four Seasons Resort Hualalai. “The courts have been received amazingly well. We started with just three and added an extra one already. They are full most mornings and then again late afternoon. During holiday times, they are full all day. We offer great programming with clinics, lessons, round robins, and tournaments.”

At the Four Seasons Private Residences in Las Vegas, their luxurious pickleball courts attract exactly the clientele they’re looking for.

“Pickleball is the fastest-growing sport in the United States, with nearly 40 million people playing. Many of our owners already play regularly, and a few even compete professionally or semi-professionally, making it a natural fit for our community,” said Kris Reilly, Developer and future resident at the Four Seasons Private Residences.

“The project is carved into the mountain, which allows the design of the two courts and the sports pavilion to take full advantage of the incredible city, the Strip, and mountain views. We are also incorporating the latest technologies to reduce sound transfer, ensuring a truly state-of-the-art experience. There are no other pickleball courts in Las Vegas that will offer this combination of views and overall playing experience,” she continued.

So all this begs the question: Why build pickleball courts in these locations, rather than tennis or padel courts? Reilly’s insight seems to align with the rest of the market.

“Many of our buyers already play pickleball, and others are eager to stay active while transitioning from more physically demanding sports into something fun and social. Dedicated pickleball courts are the perfect way to expand the lifestyle for our residents," she said.

The popularity of all these courts continues to prove that pickleball is here to stay.
