3 things to watch for on Friday at PPA Las Vegas
The Rate Vegas Cup presented by Holland America continues Friday with quarterfinal action in all five pro events.
Here is the order of play:
Now, let’s get into what to watch for.
- Marshall Brown is into the men’s singles quarterfinals for the second time in four tournaments after three-game victories over Dylan Frazier and Michael Loyd this week. The No. 22 seed will face No. 4 seed Connor Garnett as he looks to make his first PPA Tour semifinal in singles. That will be the second match of the day on Carvana Grandstand Court.
- In women’s singles, No. 3 seed Kaitlyn Christian will take on No. 5 seed Lea Jansen in what should be one of the day’s most competitive matches. Both players made deep runs at the LT Open last weekend in Atlanta, with Jansen taking gold and Christian falling in the semifinals, so fitness could play a role on Friday as players progress deeper into the tournament. Jansen has won the last four meetings between the two, so Christian will be looking to turn the tide on Friday in what will be the third match of the day on Carvana Grandstand Court.
- The story of the week in men’s doubles has been the run of Luc Pham and Will MacKinnon. After battling through the qualifying rounds on Monday, they advanced to the Round of 16 thanks to both their Round of 64 and Round of 32 opponents withdrawing on consecutive days. When they finally took the court in the main draw on Thursday, they stunned No. 9 seeds Tyson McGuffin/Ryan Fu by an 11-8, 6-11, 11-5 score line. The No. 40 seeds will now face top seeds Ben Johns/Gabe Tardio in the quarterfinals in the eighth match on Grandstand.
