3 things to watch for on Saturday at the MLP Cup
The Edward Jones MLP Cup continues Saturday with pool play in the Premier and Challenger brackets at Brookhaven Country Club in Farmers Branch, TX.
This standalone event—which is separate from the 2025 MLP season where the Columbus Sliders and Las Vegas Night Owls claimed the respective Premier and Challenger titles—will begin with pool play before the top-performing teams advance to a single-elimination bracket, with each squad competing for a share of a $50,000 prize pool.
Here is the order of play:

Now, let’s get into what to watch for.
- The day’s biggest news is that Anna Leigh Waters is once again not slated to play for the New Jersey 5s, according to the posted lineups on the MLP website. Mari Humberg took her place on Friday, with on-site alternate Zoey Weil also filling in for an ill Meghan Dizon to help New Jersey secure a 3-1 victory over the Chicago Slice. Though Dizon is expected to be back on Saturday, Humberg is still in the lineup for Waters and is slated to play women’s doubles with Dizon and mixed doubles with Noe Khlif. Waters’ absence could prove to be significant as New Jersey will face the Los Angeles Mad Drops in the day’s final bout in a rematch of the Premier semifinals. The winner of that contest will most likely advance out of pool play. This article will be updated as additional lineup modifications occur for the 5s.
- Tina Pisnik is also out for the Texas Ranchers after suffering an injury to her left hand on Friday. The injury came while both she and Eric Oncins going for a ball while playing mixed doubles, with Oncins’ paddle smashing into her hand. She was able to finish that match, but the injury will force her out on Saturday. As a result, Felicity Di Laura will get the nod for Texas and play women’s doubles alongside Kaitlyn Christian and mixed doubles with Oncins. The Ranchers will close out pool play against the Miami Pickleball Club.
- The Challenger competition will officially begin on Saturday as well, with two pools of three teams. Notably, both the College All-Star team and Junior All-Star team will join the fray. The College All-Star team features four players from Utah Tech University: Liam Duffin, Clayton Boydston, Ella Boydston, and Mary Monson. The Junior All-Star team will feature youth sensations Ella Yeh, Tama Shimabukuro, Camden Chaffin, and Elsie Hendershot. The College All-Stars will open their weekend against the Florda Smash, while the Junior All-Stars will take on the Bay Area Breakers.
Action from Brookhaven starts at 9am CT, with Championship Court coverage beginning at 10am CT On Pickleballtv.
