Alshon cruises into men’s singles final with two-game victory over Freeman
Christian Alshon continued his stellar start to the 2025 season and marched into the men’s singles final with a dominant 11-3, 11-1 victory over No. 38 seed Max Freeman.
The lefty Freeman had picked up impressive victories over No. 2 seed Connor Garnett and No. 9 seed Jack Sock earlier in the day, but Alshon proved to be too much for the rising star in the final men’s singles bout of the day on Humana Championship Court.
Despite incredibly windy conditions making it difficult for players to really get into a groove from match to match, Alshon played about as well as he could have hoped for in the face of consistent gusts.
“What I kind of try and do with the wind is just keep the ball low and use my legs a lot to get into good position,” he said.
The 24-year-old also earned several return errors by going after his serve, which he says is the key to success at the highest level of singles.
“Singles is mostly a big serve. I hate to say it, but the top players just have a really good serve, so to combat that you need a good return” he explained. “If you have a really good return, then you’re gonna do well in singles. One thing I started training a lot was my return—how to hit a good one consistently, and how to come in off of that shot.”
Alshon will have a chance to earn his first career PPA singles title when he faces Jaume Martinez Vich on Sunday.
