Alshon downs Garnett at Vizzy Atlanta Open
PEACHTREE CORNERS, GA – Fifth-seeded Christian Alshon continues to dominate the men’s singles bracket at Life Time.
On Friday, he defeated Connor Garnett in the quarterfinals 11-6, 11-6.
“Garnett missed one serve in the first game and I just ran away with it,” said Alshon. “I’ve really developed my backhand and my left-side game, along with improving my kitchen game, so now I feel more comfortable getting into the kitchen, dropping the third, and playing those points rather than trying to speed up.”
He will face top seed Federico Staksrud in the semis on Saturday.
“I feel great heading into the semi-finals. I had three tough matches leading up to this. Donald Young beat Garnett last time, Jack Sock is a phenomenal singles player, and Garnett’s the number three seed,” said Alshon.
He also had family members in the crowd for extra support.
“It’s nice to have people in your corner who are going to cheer for you and be there for you no matter what,” concluded Alshon.
