Brown books spot in quarters with win over Y. Johnson
ROCKWALL, TX - Marshall Brown had two things on his mind going in Singles Thursday at the CIBC Texas Open powered by Tixr: serving big and finding forehands.
He did that—and more—to secure an 11-6, 11-4 victory over Yates Johnson in the Round of 16, using his serve to generate return errors from his opponent and his forehand to dictate points from all over the court.
Players at Oasis Pickleball Club have had to adapt to frequently changing conditions on Thursday like switching to playing under covered courts, but those changes have been far from the front of Brown’s mind.
“I normally think about things like that, but today I’ve just been so zoned in that being indoors hasn’t really crossed my mind,” he shared. “I’ve just been trying to win every point that I can, and it’s been working out.”
With the win, Brown sets a quarterfinal clash against No. 2 seed Federico Staksrud.
