It didn’t seem to be too much trouble for Kaitlyn Christian, though, who beat No. 4 seed Salome Devidze in the Round of 16 after Parris Todd withdrew from their Round of 32 match.
The battle featuring two tennis professionals was close the whole way through, with all three games being decided by three points or fewer, but it was Christian who emerged victorious, 8-11, 14-12, 11-8.
This win sets the stage for a quarterfinal clash between Christian and No. 6 seed Brooke Buckner, who overcame Lacy Schneemann in three games to keep her title hopes alive.
