Clinical Staksrud routs Garnett in two games
Federico Staksrud claimed his sixth men’s singles title of the year with an 11-2, 11-4 victory over No. 2 seed Connor Garnett.
The Argentinian’s serve was a difference-maker throughout the match; its combination of depth, pace, and spin forced Garnett to stay back on his returns multiple times.
That allowed Staksrud to be even more aggressive on his third shots and follow those up to the kitchen line to keep Garnett on defense.
That serving performance, coupled with the top seed’s usual brand of calculated pickleball, helped him come away with the win in just over half an hour.
Staksrud now leads the season series against Garnett 2-1.
In the bronze medal match, Hunter Johnson earned his first podium finish of the year with an 11-3, 11-4 victory over Rafa Hewett.
