Flash down Ranchers in all-Texas battle
PEACHTREE CORNERS, GA - In the first match since their rebrand from the Dallas Pickleball Club, the Dallas Flash earned a 3-1 victory over the Texas Ranchers.
The Ranchers struck first behind a strong women’s doubles performance from Etta Wright and Tina Pisnik, who earned a 25-16 victory over Hurricane Tyra Black and Jorja Johnson.
JW Johnson and Augie Ge responded in style for Dallas with a men’s doubles victory over Christian Alshon and Pablo Tellez to send the match to the mixed doubles games with the teams tied 1-1.
Ge and Black then emerged from a thrilling encounter against Wright and Tellez with a 29-27 victory during which they saved two match points.
This is the second event that Ge and Black have played together since their semifinal run at the Desert Ridge Open back in February, and Ge believes that MLP atmosphere serves them both well.
“It’s nice to play with Tyra here, especially because we both have pretty even energy,” he shared. “The elevated atmosphere of MLP definitely brings out the best in us.”
That win set the stage for the Johnson siblings to close out the match in the next mixed doubles game, and they overcame an early 8-15 deficit to beat Pisnik and Alshon 26-24.
Both teams will be in action later Friday afternoon, with the Flash set to take on the New York Hustlers and the Rangers facing the St. Louis Shock.
