Florida Smash, D.C. Pickleball Team kick off Day 3 with DreamBreaker victories
Saturday’s action from CityPickle at Wollman Rink in Central Park began with two matches that went the distance, with the Florida Smash and D.C. Pickleball Team coming out on top.
Florida—featuring Travis Rettenmaier, Martina Frantova, as well as new additions Donald Young and Christa Gecheva—snagged the win against the Las Vegas Night Owls; they took both men’s and women’s doubles points to start off the match but dropped both mixed doubles games to bring on the DreamBreaker.

Young and Frantova were the difference-makers in that deciding contest, with Young going 8-2 against Rafa Hewett and Frantova going 6-2 against Judit Castillo.
Those standout performances helped the Smash earn a 21-13 win for their second consecutive DreamBreaker victory in the Big Apple.

Utah forced the singles competition thanks to wins from Connor Garnett in men’s and mixed doubles, but D.C. proved to be too much in the end and came away with a 21-18 triumph.
Florida will be back in action later Saturday afternoon against the Miami Pickleball Club, while D.C. will play its final matches in New York against the Columbus Sliders and New Jersey 5s on Sunday.
