'Golden Bachelor' plays pickleball alongside Brascia sisters

FARMERS BRANCH, TX - The star of ABC’s “The Golden Bachelor” Gerry Turner stopped by the Biofreeze USA Pickleball National Championships on Friday to spectate and join the Brascia sisters for a quick game.

Turner is the first Golden Bachelor, the newest addition to the franchise, casting an older age demographic with those looking for a second chance at love.

But in his retirement years, Turner is not only looking for love, he’s also playing a lot of pickleball.

Turner has been enjoying America's fastest growing sport for about three years.

“I love the social aspect and the exercise. It gets me out of the house and gives me something to do,” said Turner. "The pickleball scene in my hometown is like everywhere else in the country. It’s just booming, and I’m very fortunate to live near a place with indoor courts.”

He plays about three times a week with friends in his hometown of Hudson, IN.

Gerry couldn’t walk down Pickleball Boulevard without members of Bachelor Nation stopping and asking for photos, with several ladies telling Turner that if things don’t work out with his final pick, he should call them.

Turner also showed off his pickleball skills with pros Mary and Maggie Brascia.

“We’re such big fans,” said Mary, who was all smiles dinking alongside her sister and Turner.“It was a dream come true. We love Gerry and we love The Bachelor. We’re big Bachelor Nation fans.”

Turner’s skills quickly earned the respect of the pros.

“It’s a shame he’s too busy finding love, he should be playing at Nationals,” said Maggie.

On episode four, Turner and host Jesse Palmer were joined by tennis player and Season 28 bachelor, Joey Graciadei, to hold the first annual Golden Bachelor Pickleball Championship.

The women on the show competing for Turner’s heart paired up for the event, and the winning team would earn a coveted date.

This sports date where contestants go head-to-head is a staple within the Bachelor franchise, and pickleball seems like the perfect option. This one even had a fake contestant injury, so a contestant would get some special attention from Turner.

“God bless them. All the women said they were pickleball players. I think there was only one pickleball player. It was Ellen. She really knew how to play,” shared Turner. "Everyone worked hard at it and gave it their very best.”

When the Brascias watched the episode, they were delighted.

“Those women were really intense and they got competitive out there,” said Mary. “Everyone wanted to win the tournament and they had some good skills.”

Pickleball is clearly one of Gerry’s favorite activities. Finding not only a life partner and a partner for some recreational doubles matches would be ideal.

No matter who The Golden Bachelor chooses to receive his final rose, we know the real way to his heart is through pickleball.

When asked if the sport would ultimately receive his final rose, Turner smiled.

“Yes, of course,” he concluded.
