Hessert to face Fudge for women’s singles gold
MIAMI, FL - Jenna Hessert and Megan Fudge are set to square off on Championship Sunday at the APP Miami Pickleball Open.
But the two players took different routes to get there.
Hessert endured one three-game battle against Shea Donahue in the Round of 16, eventually prevailing 20-18 in the decider, and followed that up with another three-game victory over PPA Austin champion Judit Castillo.
She then took down Katerina Stewart, who herself upset Sacramento champion Jorja Johnson, in the semis to keep her run alive.
Top-seeded Megan Fudge had a much less perilous journey to make her third singles final in as many tournaments, not dropping a single game as she dispatched María Fernández Costantino, Shelby Bates, and Bobbi Oshiro.
Both Fudge and Hessert will be vying for their first APP gold medals of 2024 when they compete on Sunday.
