Johns advances to quarters, edges Beasley in hard-fought match
SAN CLEMENTE, CA - Second-seeded Ben Johns advanced to the quarterfinals in singles at the Select Medical Orange County Cup presented by FitVine Wines on Thursday.
But, it certainly wasn't easy.
No. 20 seed Naveen Beasley pushed him to the limit in a match that lasted over 42 minutes, but Johns ultimately secured a straight-game 11-9, 11-9 victory.
Beasley, who played collegiate tennis at Cal Poly where he earned a degree in mechanical engineering, delivered an impressive performance with efforts like this.
Johns will play No. 6 Quang Duong in the quarters on Friday.
Duong defeated No. 12 Hayden Patriquin to advance.
