Johns brothers win gold at North Carolina Cup
CARY, NC – Top-seeded Ben and Collin Johns added another doubles gold medal to their resume on Sunday at the North Carolina Cup with an 11-2, 4-11, 11-5, 11-6 victory over 14th-seeded Augustus Ge and Jaume Martinez Vich.
Despite coming up short, Ge and Martinez Vich put up a good fight.

“They made a push during that second game and they started lobbing a lot. That was a difference-maker and we had to note that and adjust, but it was a battle back and forth and we were really happy to get through that game,” explained Collin.
Martinez Vich and Ge were all smiles throughout the match on Humana Championship Court after defying the odds on their way to earning a spot in a gold-medal match.
“They’re both very exciting and entertaining players,” praised Ben. “They had a lot of great upsets this week, so kudos to them for a really good run. I’m sure we’re going to see a lot more of them.”
And with that, the Johns brothers earned their 29th title together on the PPA Tour.
“You really couldn’t ask for a better day to play pickleball,” noted Collin.
