Johns, Sock set to battle in semis at PPA Austin
AUSTIN, TX – Exciting times are ahead at the Veolia Austin Open powered by Invited on Thursday.
After returning to singles dominance at the Mesa Arizona Cup, World No. 1 Ben Johns is making more noise in Texas with a semi-final matchup on tap against No. 12 seed Jack Sock.
Johns defeated Wyatt Stone in the Round of 16 and JW Johnson in the quarters to set up the highly-anticipated contest against the former professional tennis star.
This will mark the first battle between Johns and Sock on the pickleball court.
For his part, Sock has quickly made a name for himself in singles with victories over top competitors like Tyson McGuffin and Connor Garnett earlier this season.
In Austin, Sock defeated Pablo Tellez in the Round of 16 and Hayden Patriquin in the quarters.
Both Johns and Sock will be playing singles on Championship Sunday regardless of the result, of course. One will play for a coveted gold medal, while the other will play for bronze.
