Parenteau heading back to Championship Sunday in singles
CARY, NC – Catherine Parenteau defeated Salome Devidze 11-3, 11-7 in the semi-finals at the Fanatics Sportsbook North Carolina Cup on Saturday.
With the victory, Parenteau advanced to a Championship Sunday showdown against a familiar face - World No. 1 Anna Leigh Waters.
This will mark Parenteau’s first appearance in a singles gold-medal match since the PPA Masters in January.
“I felt like I was on a mission today. I’m so happy to get the W,” said Parenteau. “I’m almost in tears here. I’ve been working really hard the past couple of weeks. I’ve been studying a lot. I lost to Salome last time. She’s an amazing player, and it was heartbreaking the last time I played her because I had match points and I lost in both matches, so I’m really happy.”
Facing Waters won't be an easy task, of course, but the Canadian is primed for the opportunity to battle her doubles partner.
“I would love for Anna Leigh to have an off day,” joked Parenteau. “I have to be aggressive, stay on the baseline, and not play so far away. But, I’m super excited. It will be a really fun match.”
