Pisnik, Bar upset Parenteau, Sock in back-and-forth battle
CARY, NC – Thirteenth-seeded Tina Pisnik and Dekel Bar came onto Humana Championship Court on Friday looking strong.
And with good reason after defeating fourth-seeded Meghan Dizon and Tyson McGuffin in the previous round.
But Catherine Parenteau and Jack Sock were obviously going to be tough opponents, and it was quite a battle.
Pisnik and Bar dominated the opening game 11-1.
But Parenteau and Sock made a few tweaks and took the second game 12-10.
And after saving a few match points, Pisnik and Bar sealed the victory with a 12-10 score in the final stanza.
“Jack is super dangerous, and he has a lot of firepower. Catherine is super solid, so we had to play smart and get aggressive when we needed to,” said Bar. “It got close there and we’re glad we pulled it out.”
With long, beautiful rallies that felt like they would go on forever, it was an epic contest to watch .
“We gave you guys a show,” said Pisnik with a smile as the crowd cheered them on.
A match against Todd Fought and Maggie Brascia awaits in the semis.
