PPA Tour history being made with first-ever women’s singles qualifying round
DALLAS, TX – History will be made at the 2024 Carvana Mesa Arizona Cup this week.
The first-ever women’s singles qualifying round on the PPA Tour is slated for Wednesday at the Arizona Athletic Grounds.
Eight women will battle for four spots in the main draw where matchups against the likes of Chao Yi Wang and Anna Bright, among a couple of others, await.
It’s a long road to Championship Sunday, of course, with 44 competitors in the pro bracket, including World No. 1 Anna Leigh Waters, Lea Jansen and Catherine Parenteau. But, anything can happen once a match begins.
With respect to men’s singles, a different issue arose for the Mesa tournament.
The PPA was forced to cap the number of participants in the qualifying round for the very first time.
Seventy-seven players are registered to complete for just eight slots in the main draw.
On the mixed doubles front, there are 51 teams registered for qualifying with eight openings in the main bracket.
That’s a lot of qualifiers. And a whole lot of pickleball.
Bottom line, more and more players are hungry to challenge the best in the business and make a name for themselves in the process. Exciting times are ahead.
There's also reason to celebrate in the Grand Canyon State as the Mesa tournament marks the four-year anniversary of the PPA Tour's inaugural event.
