Rohrabacher, Staksrud down David, Wilson in three-game battle
PEACHTREE CORNERS, GA – It was bound to get interesting on Friday as the ninth-seeded tandem of Rachel Rohrabacher and Federico Staksrud faced the second-seeded duo of Vivienne David and Thomas Wilson.
Rohrabacher and Staksrud were 0-3 against their rivals heading into this latest matchup at the Vizzy Atlanta Open.
“This is what you work for, trying to beat the teams that are better than you,” said Staksrud.
“We’ve lost to them a few times and we’ve been going back to the drawing board, and then each time we’ve played them, we’ve gotten closer and closer every time,” added Rohrabacher.
In the end, it was one of the most exciting and energetic matches of the day.
The final score was 11-7, 8-11, 12-10 in favor of Rohrabacher and Staksrud.
“We just stepped it up, being more ballsy and not playing too safe,” stressed Rohrabacher.
The pair will face third-seeded Anna Bright and James Ignatowich in the semi-finals on Saturday.
