Rosters announced for APP’s inaugural Atlantic Cup
DALLAS, TX - International pickleball has had some major wins so far in 2024, from the Indian Open in February to the announcement of PPA Tour Australia just a few weeks ago.
And all of a sudden, we’re closing in on the sport’s first international team competition.
The APP announced Monday the rosters for the inaugural Atlantic Cup, which will pit six of America’s brightest young pickleball stars against some of the top players from across Europe.
The three-day competition is the first event to be endorsed by both the USA Pickleball and European Pickleball Federation governing bodies.
It will take place at the Miami Beach Convention Center on March 20, 22 and 24 and will coincide with the Chase APP Miami Pickleball Open set to run from March 19-24.
The Team USA roster features Riley Bohnert (Louisville, KY), Alia Brown (Alpharetta, GA), Ava Kalist (Chambersburg, PA), Spencer Lanier (Newberg, OR), Richard Livornese (Ringoes, NJ) and Jack Munro (Buda, TX).
Chad Edwards and Lee Whitwell will coach the squad.
“I’m looking forward to coaching Team USA in the Atlantic Cup and the opportunity to showcase America’s young up-and-coming talent against the best of Europe,” Edwards said. “We’ll be looking to outperform Team Europe in Miami.”
Team Europe’s roster consists of Pialena Ander (Nyköping, Sweden), James Chaudry (London, UK), María Costantino (Malaga, Spain), Felix Grunert (Erlangen, Germany), Louis Laville (London, UK) and Thaddea Lock (London, UK). Laville and Lock will serve as co-captains.
“International team events have been hugely entertaining fixtures across different sports including golf, football (soccer), cricket, and now pickleball,” shared Laville. “To captain Team Europe is an honor, and I will be playing and supporting my team as much as possible to help give us the inaugural victory.”
