Schneemann outduels Maddox, earns singles triumph
PEACHTREE CORNERS, GA – No. 10 Lacy Schneemann emerged victorious in a hard-fought battle against No. 41 Christine Maddox on Wednesday.
Schneemann posted a 12-10, 4-11, 11-9 victory at Life Time.
“Singles is tough. It’s a love-hate relationships, and today was more of a hate relationship with singles,” said Schneemann with a chuckle. “Christine is tricky. She has a wicked backhand and an interesting grip on the forehand. She holds it pretty extreme western grip, which means she gets a ton of spin, but you can also get a decent amount of errors on that side.”
The deciding game was close, but Schneemann was too much in the end.
“Going into that third game, I was trying to return it well. I needed to get the ball deep and ideally get it over to her forehand and see if she could give me a few errors,” explained Schneemann.
She will face Brooke Buckner on Thursday.
