Stage set for men's singles final in St. George: Johnson battles Sock
The men's singles final at the Black Desert Resort Red Rock Open should be an entertaining affair on Championship Sunday.
No. 2 Hunter Johnson will face No. 7 Jack Sock at Little Valley Sports Complex.
Johnson advanced to the final with a come-from-behind 9-11, 11-3, 11-8 semifinal victory over No. 5 Quang Duong on Saturday.
The 30-year-old is seeking his second singles title of the season.
He most recently claimed singles gold at the Proton Tucson Open in February.
Johnson has four career singles titles on the PPA Tour.
Sock, meanwhile, outlasted No. 3 Connor Garnett 6-11, 11-5, 11-7 in a three-game semifinal battle that went the distance on Humana Championship Court.
The four-time tennis Grand Slam champion, who eliminated top seed Federico Staksrud in the quarterfinals, is seeking his first singles gold medal on the PPA Tour.
The 32-year-old claimed silver last year in Utah.
"I'm definitely looking for some revenge. I'm going to just go out and play my game. That's all I can do," said Sock. "Hunter's probably been one of the best singles players for the last six-to-eight months, so I'll be up for it. It'll be a tough match, but I'll take my chances."
