Underdogs Ge, Martinez Vich best second-seeded Ignatowich, Wright
CARY, NC – Doubles continues to yield some interesting results in the Round of 16 at the Fanatics Sportsbook North Carolina Cup.
Enter the No. 14 seeds Augustus Ge and Jaume Martinez Vich, who defeated second-seeded Matt Wright and James Ignatowich 11-6, 11-9 on Thursday.
“It was so good to get that one in two games,” said Ge with a huge smile.
Ge is still a fresh face on the pro pickleball scene. He only started playing full-time in December 2023.
“It’s nice to play with sick partners like Jaume who have insane energy. It’s just a blast out there,” noted Ge.
A quarterfinal matchup awaits on Friday against either Patrick Smith and Jay Devilliers or Callan Dawson and Hayden Patriquin.
“I’m feeling good heading into the quarterfinals. These windy conditions help underdogs a little bit, which I felt played into this match, so hopefully we can continue to carry some of that underdog energy going forward,” concluded Ge.
