Waters earns 100th PPA Tour title
CARY, NC - Let’s face it. Anna Leigh Waters winning a Triple Crown typically isn’t groundbreaking news.
But Championship Sunday at Cary Tennis Park was a special one for the 17-year-old.
With her 11-4, 11-4 victory over Catherine Parenteau, Waters earned her 100th title on the PPA Tour to become just the second player ever to achieve that feat after Ben Johns did so in Cincinnati.
It’s quite the feat for the teenager who also captured women’s doubles and mixed doubles title earlier on Sunday, but she acknowledges the crucial role that her support system has played in her success.
“It’s definitely not just me out on the court,” Waters said. “I’m being supported by everyone who helps me, whether it’s people I work with, my family, or my mom and coach. I couldn’t do it without any of them.”
Hitting the century mark in North Carolina is also special, since the World No. 1 lived in the area for part of her childhood.
“I’m just super happy that I could get my 100th title here in Cary,” she mentioned. “This is where I grew up. This is where it all started.”
We’re not sure where the trophies will end for Waters, but we’ll certainly be here to watch.
