Waters, Johns down Pisnik, Bar for mixed doubles crown
CARY, NC – Top-seeded mixed doubles duo Anna Leigh Waters and Ben Johns continue to prove why they’re the best pickleball players on the planet.
On Sunday, the pair defeated 13th-seeded Tina Pisnik and Dekel Bar 12-10, 11-3, 11-0 at the North Carolina Cup to secure another title.
While the opening game was close, Waters and Johns took control the rest of the way.
“Dekel was hitting a lot of big drives, Tina was making all her drops, and I made some errors from that. We really just said, 'Let’s make sure we’re getting in every time we look for an opening.' We’re happy to get out of that one.”
During the match, Waters made an incredible - and somewhat accidental - Erne shot that nicked the top of her paddle and sent the ball cross court to Pisnik who couldn’t recover.
“I probably shouldn’t have made that shot,” said Waters with a laugh. “But, I’m happy I went for it and got it.”
This win marked Waters' 99th career PPA title.
“She’s an incredible player,” praised Johns. “It’s amazing to watch her grit, her skill, and so many other amazing attributes. I’m looking forward to many more years of watching.”
